History
Thorntons Recycling was founded in 1979 by Padraig and Carmel Thornton, and since then has grown to become a recognised leader in its sector, with an annual turnover in excess of €30 million and employing over 200 people in five locations.

Since the early days the company has continuously invested in technolgy, processes, infrastructure and people. This is an ongoing process and committment. The company has enshrined these ideals in its Quality System which is accredited to International Standards 9001, 14001 and 18001.

The company has built up a network of recycling depots and infrastructure including:
1. Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at Killeen Road, Dublin 10 which is licensed by the EPA to handle 250,000 tonnes of material per annum
2. Materials Recovery Faciltiy (MRF) and Civic Amenity (CA) site at Dunboyne Industrial Estate, Dunboyne, Co Meath which is licensed by the EPA to handle 50,000 tonnes of material per annum
3. Composting Facility at Kilmainhamwood, Co Meath which is licensed by the EPA to handle 20,080 tonnes of material per annum
4. End of Life Vehicle (ELV) facility at Kylemore Park, Dublin 12 which is permitted to de-pollute end of life vehicles and abandoned cars in an environmentally friendly manner.
5. Confidential Shredding Facility at Parkwest Business Park, Dublin 12. This is a secure facility for the shredding of confidential documents.
6. WEEE Recycling Depot at Kylemore Park, Dublin 12. This is a take back centre for retailers that have registered with Dublin City Council for the safe disposal of WEEE products (Waste Electronics Electrical Equipment)
7. Woodchipping facility at PDM, Kill, Co Kildare where recycled timber is shredded and turned into a product for re-use.
The company will continue to invest in Best Available Technology (BAT) in order to improve recycling and recovery rates. Our objective is to divert as much material away from landfill and at the same time provide our customers with a premium service.
